The Interview

No I didn't interview for a job! Nick and I received a phone call from our 10 year old grandaughter and she had an assignment she was given for her 4th grade class.  She had to interview us. Her grampa had just come in the door from work so I was handed the phone and on the other end of the phone was this enthusiastic little girl with some big questions.

She asked if I was ready and then proceeded to ask me if I remembered things back when I was 10 years old. I was at that point, scratchin this bald head of mine. 10 years old - wow that was 42 years ago and there has been alot of water over the dam since that age.  Her questions were those of when I went to school, what was in the classroom - my mind quickly went back to gradeschool and scanned the Catholic school room I went to. Certainly wasn't any computers there, but I did remember there was a globe.  Guess cause I have been around the world since I was 10 (or so it seems like it).

She asked where was a favorite place that I remembered going to when I was 10 and in 4th grade. I remembered Letchworth State Park as being a favorite spot my family went to often. It was beautiful.

She asked what color was the room I slept in when I was that age and if my memory served me right, it was basically white and purple. My mom loved to wallpaper and I think it was her favorite pastime besides having 10 kids! It was probably good we never went away for long at periods of time as kids as she would have cleaned house and rewallpapered while we were away.

Em also asked me to describe the kinds of houses in our neighborhood and about my favorite friend named Lisa growing up.

I gathered on the other end of the line she was busy writing all of my answers down, I helped her to spell a few of the names of the school and places - she never missed a beat!

When it was her Gramps turn he had a bunch of good answers for her and at the end of the conversation/interview, he advised her to write down her favorites and her answers to the questions she was asking because one day, she will have to do an interview with her grandchild and it will be easier to remember (unlike us old folks).

I sure liked having the time to share the special conversation with her and it made me long for more times like that. Sure beats going on a job interview!
