TREE TRIMMING 101

It is my job to put the lights on the tree each year and we have two trees. One for the living room and a small one for the family room. I told Nick as I was assembling the lights to get them ready to put on and strategically place them, you have to stand back and "scrinch" your eyes so you see only the lights in a fuzzy glow (of course being my age most everything is "a fuzzy glo") to be sure there are no holes in the twining of the display.

He about laughed me out of the family room. He did HOWEVER try it and came up - with, girl you have lost your mind. But I want to see how many other tree trimmers out there do it to make their lights look flowing.

Now when you get to be my age, you have to only do it for brief moments because it is NOT good for the crows feet. So it is truly a good thing Chrismas only comes once a year.

I do it to and have taught my boys to do it, too. However this year, I didn't put them on because I have a reputation as being "Helga the Horrible" when it comes to putting on the lights and garland because I'm so picky. So, I told them I wasn't helping this year and didn't. They did use that trick (squinting the eyes) to get them on right. :)

I did that all the time as a kid - didn't know then that it was because of poor eyesight! And I also 'scrinched' my eyes to make stars of car headlights of on-coming cars on the highway at night. That's not such a good idea now if I'm the driver. Our tree doesn't go up until Christmas Eve day, in the German tradition, and comes down on 12th night. It's always seemed to me that every other baby is celebrated after it's born. The Christ child's birth is a big ho-ha before He's born and forgotten by most the day after His arrival. What do you think?

Well, at my age, if I get too close to the tree it gets all blurry. To enjoy it with clarity I must stand back 15 feet. :)
