The Calendar

Every year my family puts out a calendar.  We get an e-mail from my sister Joanne telling us it's "time" to gather our pictures and we have to meet the deadline for sending them to her.  All throughout the year I think about this calendar, because I use the one that is current. It shows all the birthdays, anniversaries, etc. for the entire Uebelhoer family (stop laughing, the name is real).  I know it will roll around in February again and the deadline will come up for those pictures so I begin to ponder which pictures I have gotten of my children throughout the year and determine which ones to use.

Group shots work the best.  We are never all together at one time so I have to get the individual families and submit them along with ones of just Nick and I.  We also choose one of Robbie.  My sister takes one month of the calendar and puts both my brother Robert and our son Robert on the same page as they both died on the same day (May 17th - just 30 years apart).  I try to find a different photo each year so the family can see pictures of him that they may not have seen of him while he was still alive.

We love getting our calendar.  It really is the only time we get to see current photos of all of our extended family. I come from a LARGE family and it continues to grow.  It amazes me to see the nieces and nephews that were babies when I was little are now having children.  I begin to see generations forming and boy do I feel old at times.  It's still a neat tradition though.

This year, I have thrown in pics of me being bald and one of Nick and I when we were younger and had bought a "luxury car" (what were we thinking? - we traded our mini van for that?) - "a blast from the past".  With the recent turn of events in our lives, we all need a good laugh, one that would just about bring us to tears!
